This guide brings together UMaT’s current application deadline, programme catalogue, entry routes, document checklist and official portal process so applicants can prepare before using their credentials.
Verified 17 August 2026
UMaT undergraduate admissions are open for 2026/2027
UMaT’s current undergraduate overview and application pages state that application vouchers for the 2026/2027 academic year are on sale. The Ghanaian undergraduate guide gives 18 September 2026 as the application deadline. Applicants should complete the form early enough to correct errors and satisfy any route-specific document instruction.
Deadline source note: the dedicated Ghanaian application guide states 18 September 2026. A separate 2026/2027 announcement calendar ends on 16 September and its body incorrectly names 2024/2025. Because those official pages conflict, this guide uses the dedicated application guide while flagging the discrepancy.

EvoucherGhana does not publish an application deadline or entry requirement here unless it has been verified.
Applicant fit
Who should use this UMaT application guide?
This guide is primarily for Ghanaian undergraduate applicants using WASSCE, SSSCE, GCE, diploma, HND, technical or mature-entry qualifications. UMaT also considers international applicants with equivalent qualifications and publishes separate instructions for them. BSc, Diploma, Certificate and Arts-to-Engineering are distinct application categories; choose the category that matches the programme and qualification route shown by UMaT.
Requirements to verify first
Check both the general entry threshold and the subject combination for the intended programme. Aggregate 36 is a minimum consideration threshold published for BSc admission, not a guaranteed offer. Engineering and science routes commonly require Elective Mathematics and Physics plus Chemistry or an explicitly permitted technical substitute; computing, management, planning and data programmes publish different combinations.
Choose the right route
UMaT applicant categories
- BSc direct applicants: UMaT instructs regular BSc applicants to select four distinct programmes in preference order.
- Diploma applicants: choose one programme and satisfy the Diploma-specific core, elective or technical-qualification route.
- Certificate applicants: choose one programme; UMaT describes the published Certificate courses as weekend programmes.
- Arts-to-Engineering applicants: use the matching application category and follow the requirements displayed for that route.
- BSc top-up applicants: choose two distinct programmes and prepare the relevant tertiary certificate and transcript.
- Mature and international applicants: follow the qualification and evidence rules for that category rather than the standard WASSCE route.
Level 100 eligibility
UMaT WASSCE and programme-subject requirements
For the principal BSc science and engineering routes, UMaT requires credits in English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science plus three relevant electives. The exact electives depend on the programme, so general eligibility must be checked against the intended course.
General BSc threshold
UMaT publishes aggregate 36 as its minimum entry threshold. A qualifying aggregate permits consideration; it does not override programme subjects, departmental competition or available places.
Mining, minerals, petroleum and core geoscience
The published combination is English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, plus Elective Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Geomatic Engineering alone may substitute Geography for Chemistry.
Mechanical Engineering
Applicants need the three stated core credits and Physics, Elective Mathematics, plus Chemistry or Technical Drawing, Metal Work or Auto-Mechanic as the third elective.
Electrical, renewable and telecommunication engineering
UMaT lists Physics, Elective Mathematics and Chemistry; Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Renewable Energy Engineering may use Applied Electricity or Electronics in place of Chemistry.
Computing, robotics and artificial intelligence
Computer Science and Engineering accepts Physics and Elective Mathematics with Chemistry or specified computing/electrical subjects. Robotics Engineering and Artificial Intelligence also lists technical options including Metal Work, Technical Drawing and Auto-Mechanic.
Mathematics and data programmes
Mathematics, Statistical Data Science, Finance and Data Science, Data Science and Analytics, Mathematics with Finance and Engineering Mathematics publish Elective Mathematics-led combinations. The permitted supporting electives vary by programme.
Management and planning programmes
Logistics and Transport Management, Economics and Industrial Organization, Transport Planning and Management, Land Administration and Spatial Planning accept broader published combinations from Science, Arts, Business and, for some routes, Agriculture, Visual Arts, Home Economics or Technical Studies.
GCE route
The BSc page requires O-Level credits in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, together with A-Level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Meeting aggregate 36 does not automatically guarantee admission to a particular UMaT programme. UMaT states that departmental selection is competitive. Always compare the exact subjects on your result with the current requirement for each programme choice.
UMaT-published charges
Official UMaT application voucher fees for 2026/2027
UMaT currently publishes the following Ghanaian application voucher charges by programme category. They help an applicant identify the correct form type before beginning the application.
| Application category | Official published fee |
|---|---|
| BSc programmes | GH¢230 |
| Diploma programmes | GH¢200 |
| Certificate programmes | GH¢180 |
| Arts to Engineering | GH¢180 |
These are UMaT’s published application voucher fees, not a statement of EvoucherGhana’s retail or service-inclusive price. The product card and checkout continue to display the current EvoucherGhana catalog price without changing it.
No verified 2026/2027 programme table
UMaT cut-off points and competitive admission
UMaT’s current entry-requirements page confirms an aggregate-36 minimum and refers to competitive departmental cut-off aggregates, but the current first-party pages reviewed do not publish a programme-by-programme 2026/2027 cut-off table. This page therefore does not reproduce figures from blogs or older unofficial lists.
Treat aggregate 36 as a general eligibility ceiling, not a prediction of admission. Stronger results may be needed where demand exceeds available places. Choose programmes for which you have the required electives and use only a UMaT-published table if the University later releases one for 2026/2027.

First-party catalogue conflict: UMaT’s campus pages, BSc entry-requirements page and live application portal do not show identical sets. The portal currently says it has 29 undergraduate programmes and includes Solar Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Systems, while several programmes marked new on the campus pages are absent from that portal list. Confirm the options actually selectable in the live form before final submission.

Use only official umat.edu.gh and apply.umat.edu.gh pages to enter application credentials, submit the form, check the admission list and print an admission letter. EvoucherGhana is not the University’s admissions office.
The UMaT photo page displays “450px × 540cm”; the second unit appears inconsistent. Do not reinterpret it. Follow the current upload control or ask UMaT to confirm the exact pixel dimensions before preparing the final image.
This page supports voucher purchase and application preparation. It is not the institution's application portal and does not imply authorization, endorsement, or a formal partnership with University of Mines and Technology.
Always verify programme requirements, application dates, fees, and submission instructions using information published by the institution.
Qualification-specific routes
Mature, Diploma, HND, Certificate and awaiting-results guidance
Mature BSc applicants
UMaT requires applicants to be at least 25, hold WASSCE/SSSCE or GCE O-Level credits in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject, and have relevant experience. Selection includes a written examination and/or interview. The birth certificate must be at least five years old from its issue date, and the application guide requests an introductory work-experience letter.
Diploma applicants
UMaT lists Diploma in General Drilling, Plant and Maintenance Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering. WASSCE routes require A1–D7 passes in English, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus at least C6 in Physics, Elective Mathematics and the stated science or technical alternative. The page also publishes SSSCE, CTVET, City and Guilds and UMaT Certificate of Proficiency routes where applicable.
HND or Diploma top-up applicants
The BSc page lists Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering top-up programmes and asks top-up applicants for a tertiary certificate and transcript. Mechanical applicants need a Diploma or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related programme. The Electrical top-up requirement appears to repeat “Mechanical Engineering” on the official page; verify the intended feeder qualification directly with UMaT rather than relying on that apparent wording error.
Certificate applicants
The current Certificate requirements describe weekend study. WASSCE applicants need passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science. Other applicants aged at least 20 may use specified vocational or older school qualifications and must pass a departmental interview.
Awaiting 2026 WASSCE results
The current 2026/2027 UMaT pages reviewed do not expressly confirm a fresh awaiting-results route or explain result retrieval or updating for this cycle. Older UMaT notices did allow applicants to update results, but that historical rule is not presented here as current. Confirm with UMaT before buying or submitting on an awaiting-results basis.
International applicants
UMaT states that applicants with equivalent qualifications may be considered and provides a separate international application route. Use that route’s credential and document instructions rather than the Ghanaian PIN-and-serial workflow.
Before final submission
UG application mistakes to avoid
UMaT’s form combines qualification checks, uploads and ranked programme choices. Review these points before the final submission action.
- ×Choosing an engineering or science programme without the exact Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or permitted technical combination.
- ×Treating aggregate 36 as guaranteed admission instead of a minimum threshold for competitive selection.
- ×Entering a nickname, inconsistent date of birth or examination details that do not match the supporting record.
- ×Using a phone number or email that the applicant cannot access for admission communication.
- ×Uploading an unreadable result slip, missing the top-up transcript, or using a passport image that does not meet the published rules.
- ×Repeating a programme choice or ranking options without considering subject eligibility and genuine preference.
- ×Posting a BSc summary even though UMaT says BSc applicants should keep it and present a copy when reporting.
- ×Waiting until the deadline day and losing time needed to verify uploads, correct data or resolve a portal issue.
After submitting
Check the official UMaT admission list
UMaT says selected applicants receive an SMS and that the admission list is published on its application system. Successful applicants use the same PIN and serial number to log in and print the admission letter and related documents.
