University of Ghana Undergraduate Admission Guide 2026/2027

Planning a UG undergraduate application is easier when you separate three decisions: whether your results meet the general entry standard, whether they are competitive for your preferred programme, and whether that programme has an extra selection step. This guide brings those checks together before you obtain the UG admission voucher through EvoucherGhana.

UG undergraduate applications are open for 2026/2027

The official UG admissions website currently lists the 2026/2027 undergraduate application as open. Final-year SHS candidates and applicants who already have their results can use the relevant undergraduate route.

There is no single closing date for every applicant. Deadlines vary by programme and category. Selected College of Health Sciences programmes had an earlier deadline, while the published general Ghanaian undergraduate window remains open until WASSCE results are released.

Applicant fit

Who should use this UG application guide?

This page focuses on undergraduate admission. The available routes include Ghanaian WASSCE or SSSCE applicants, final-year candidates awaiting WASSCE results, recognised Diploma or HND holders applying to a related degree, mature applicants using the Distance Education pathway, and international or foreign-qualification applicants following the category created for their credentials.

Requirements to verify first

Choose the category that matches both your qualification and residency. Level 100 WASSCE or SSSCE requirements should not be used as the standard for Diploma/HND, mature, international, or foreign-background applications.

Choose the right route

UG applicant categories

  • WASSCE applicants with released results
  • SSSCE applicants where the qualification remains applicable
  • Final-year SHS candidates applying while awaiting WASSCE results
  • Recognised Diploma or HND holders seeking a related undergraduate degree route
  • Mature applicants using the published access-course and entrance process
  • International applicants or Ghanaians presenting foreign qualifications

Level 100 eligibility

General UG requirements for WASSCE and SSSCE applicants

For full-time Level 100 degree admission, UG publishes a general academic threshold. Meeting it allows an applicant to be considered; it does not mean every programme is within reach.

Four core subject credits

WASSCE applicants need A1–C6 and SSSCE applicants need A–D in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science or Core Science, and Social Studies.

Three relevant electives

The electives must support the programme area. Science applications use relevant science electives, while non-science routes use the subjects stated for Arts, Business, or the chosen programme.

Six-subject aggregate

UG calculates the aggregate from three relevant core subjects and three electives. The published maximum for regular admission is aggregate 24.

Programme subject rules still apply

Some programmes demand a particular subject or stronger grade. Examples on the official cutoff page include Elective Mathematics requirements for Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Actuarial Science.

For science programmes, the calculated core subjects are English, Core Mathematics, and Integrated Science; Social Studies must still be passed. For non-science programmes, English, Core Mathematics, and Social Studies are calculated; Integrated Science must still be passed.

A separate deadline and entrance examination applied

UG set 24 July 2026 as the application deadline for the selected programmes below and scheduled computer-based entrance examinations for 3–8 August 2026. These dates applied to this Health Sciences group, not to every undergraduate programme. As of the verification date for this guide, both dates have passed; applicants should use their portal and current UG notices for any later instruction.

MBChB Bachelor of Dental Surgery Doctor of Pharmacy Nursing and Midwifery Medical Laboratory Sciences Physiotherapy and Dietetics Diagnostic Radiography, Occupational Therapy, and Respiratory Therapy

UG stated that applicants did not need released WASSCE results to submit for or sit this examination. Admission decisions use both the entrance examination outcome and WASSCE results.

Alternative undergraduate pathways

Guidance for awaiting-results, Diploma/HND, and mature applicants

Awaiting WASSCE results

UG permits final-year SHS candidates to apply while awaiting results in the current undergraduate window. Enter the correct WAEC index number, examination type, and year so the application can be matched to the right result when released.

Diploma or HND to Degree

Recognised Diploma holders may apply to the same or an equivalent subject area. UG publishes FGPA thresholds of 3.25 for Legon or City Campus and 2.50 for Distance Education. Recognised HND holders use a separate same-or-equivalent-area route, with published thresholds of 4.00 for Legon or City Campus and 3.25 for Distance Education. Placement and any examination or interview depend on the official route.

Mature entry

The mature pathway is for eligible Distance Education applicants who are at least 25. UG also publishes proof-of-age, relevant work-experience, access-course, and mature entrance-examination conditions. Passing the entrance process comes before the final undergraduate application.

Before final submission

UG application mistakes to avoid

A careful five-minute review can prevent a wrong result match, unsuitable programme choice, or an incomplete record.

  • ×Entering a WAEC index number that does not match the candidate and examination type
  • ×Choosing the wrong examination year or leaving awaiting-results details incomplete
  • ×Selecting a programme without checking its required subjects, first-choice rule, or competitive cutoff guidance
  • ×Using names or a date of birth that conflict with academic and identity records
  • ×Submitting before required sections or document uploads have been checked
  • ×Losing or sharing the voucher Serial Number and PIN
  • ×Trusting an unofficial person who promises admission in exchange for money

After submitting

How to check UG admission status

After admission decisions begin, use the official UG Admission Status Checker. The search field accepts an applicant Serial Number or surname. Check the programme, campus, and admission type shown before opening any available letter.

Helpful answers

UG admission form FAQs

Is the University of Ghana admission form available for 2026/2027?

Yes. The official UG admissions website lists the 2026/2027 undergraduate application as open as of 10 August 2026. The closing date depends on the programme and applicant category.

Can 2026 WASSCE candidates apply while waiting for results?

Yes. UG states that final-year SHS candidates awaiting results may apply. Enter the correct WAEC index number, examination type, and year.

What aggregate is required to apply to UG?

For regular WASSCE or SSSCE degree admission, the published general maximum is aggregate 24 from the relevant six subjects. Competitive programmes usually require a stronger aggregate.

Are the 2026/2027 UG cutoff points out?

A separate confirmed 2026/2027 cutoff table is not being presented here. The selected figures on this page are clearly labelled as 2025/2026 reference values from UG and may change.

What is the difference between general requirements and programme cutoffs?

General requirements establish whether an applicant can be considered. A programme cutoff reflects competition and available places for a particular course, so it can be much stronger.

Does UG have special requirements for Health Sciences?

Yes. UG published a separate 24 July 2026 deadline and computer-based entrance examination process for selected Level 100 Health Sciences programmes. These rules did not apply to every undergraduate programme.

Can Diploma or HND holders apply for a UG degree?

Yes, where the qualification, FGPA, and subject area match a recognised Diploma/HND-to-Degree route. Applicants should use that route rather than Level 100 WASSCE requirements.

How do applicants check their UG admission status?

Use the official UG Admission Status Checker. It supports searches using the applicant Serial Number or surname.

Where do I apply after receiving my UG voucher?

Sign in to the official UG Ghanaian undergraduate application portal with the Serial Number and PIN, complete every required section, review the form, and submit it.
